You know I'm not sure if I need to put my foot in my mouth or not for this one. Yesterday I was hyping and praising Europe. Well, last night I read an article that was saying one of the soccer teams fans attacked another teams fans bus. Now I must admit I still think I am correct in what I wrote yesterday but there is a black eye on Europe and the rest of the world when it comes to football or as Americans call it, soccer, since we already have football.
Like I was saying that is one of the Achilles heal situations for the rest of the world. No matter how beautiful the country is or how rich in history, when it comes to the sport of soccer they are more rabid then any American fan for any sport. They will mess you up for saying the wrong thing about their teams. In fact it is so competitive out there that the teams that don't make it to the finals, in some countries, the players lives and those of their family members are in danger. They are expected to win and if they mess up even a little. Watch out. There is no way I would play on a team like that, even if I could. Forgo the sport or go to another country. Soccer is serious business for the world. Just think, it is the biggest sport in the world bar none. No matter what Americans think, it take the crown hands down. The world is much bigger than little ol' America.
That's why the World Cup is such a big deal as well. I remember during the last world cup I was on a Disney cruise (12 night European Capitals cruise). During the games it seemed everything stopped or at least everything was like a ghost town. Well that is except for the older people and the real young ones that would rather play then watch the games (good for them by the way). Needless to say the lounges that had TV's in them were packed! Especially when America played along with the other countries that were represented. It was fun I must say even though to me, soccer, is almost like baseball. Completely boring unless you are there in person! But we did enjoy the company.
