Prince Dead: Music Icon Dies At 57

Prince is dead. The music icon was 57.
Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, died at his Minnesota estate on Thursday. Police were called to his Paisley Park mansion around 9:45 a.m. local time for a medical emergency at the on-site recording studio, but deputies discovered the fatality upon arrival. The Carver County Sheriff’s Department initially did not publicly identify the singer as the victim as they waited to notify his next of kin, but Prince’s publicist sadly confirmed his death.
Prince’s passing comes less than a week after he was briefly hospitalized. As Gossip Cop reported, his private jet made an emergency landing in Illinois when became ill while traveling from Georgia to Minnesota. His rep said he had been suffering from the flu, which had caused him to cancel concerts earlier this month.
His death now is sure to send shockwaves throughout the music industry, as Prince will go down as one of the greatest musicians and performers of all time. A native of Minneapolis, he started his career in the late-1970s and became a monster success the following decade. Working with a number of bands over the years, Prince amassed seven Grammys.
The singer, writer, producer and occasional actor also won an Academy Award in 1985, receiving an Oscar for Best Original Song Score for “Purple Rain.” He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, and his discography includes a whopping 39 studio albums. His most recent records, HITnRUN Phase One and HITnRUN Phase Two, came out last year through Tidal and NPG Records. The superstar was in the midst of writing a memoir, which he recently revealed would be called The Beautiful Ones.
