Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Gal. 5: 22-23)
God is really into fruit. The first diet he put the first couple on was from all appearances one consisting of fruit and vegatables. Fruit is one of those rare foods that is not only good to you it is good for you. As God’s Holy Spirit lives in Christ-followers, He wants to bear through us these character qualities that like fruit will make us both attactive to others and positively influential with others. Today we deal with the fruit of kindness.
The wisest man who ever lived, a man named Solomon, wrote a book in the Bible called Proverbs. This book basically is a summary of the best practical wisdom from the heart of God. He felt that kindness was so very important that this is what he had to say about it.
“Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace; write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people and you will gain a good reputation.” (Proverbs 3: 3-4)
Solomon said in effect, you would be better leaving home without American Express than leaving home without kindness. Every morning when you get up and walk out the door to go to work or school or wherever you are going, you ought to wear kindness around your neck just like a necklace.
