Tuesday's Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

When was the last time you woke up early to read your Bible before starting your workday? When was the last time you intentionally memorized a certain passage of Scripture? Did you know that sixty percent of Americans can’t name even five of the Ten Commandments. Twelve percent of adults believe Joan of Arc was Noah’s wife. And over fifty percent of graduating seniors think Sodom and Gomorrah were husband and wife.

So many evangelical Christians are concerned about the way our culture is increasingly rejecting biblical Christianity, but to be quite honest, I am more concerned about evangelical Christians rejecting the Bible. Now I don't mean they reject the truth of the Bible, no, they reject interacting with the Bible. Believers have forgotten that the Bible is their compass for life! Followers of Jesus have given up a daily pursuit of Him because their lives have become “too busy.”

Joshua 1:8 says, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Again in Matthew Jesus says, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” (4:4) If you have become so busy that you neglect to feed yourself from God’s Word, then you are unknowingly suffering from spiritual malnutrition.

I want to challenge you today to start digging into God’s Word again. Begin each day this week reading your Bible and praying that God would increase your desire to know Him. Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year, so it will take discipline on your part to create time each day to spend with God. But if you are faithful to carve out the time, God will be faithful to strengthen your journey with Him.
