TOP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT
Supergirl Has a New Friend
CBS
BECAUSE: Important new relationships abounded in Kara's life on Monday night. The long-awaited Supergirl-Flash crossover finally arrived with The Flash himself tumbling in from another Earth to help the Girl of Steel out, and it was just as sweet, silly, and speedy as we'd hoped. Barry counseled Kara (aw!), they kicked a little ass together (pow!), and the romance sparks flew (boom!) -- but not between Barry and Kara. Nope, it was time for Kara to finally put on a little hustle, per Barry, and give James a kiss. Word is still out on whether she has super-human romance strength.

WHAT HAPPENED: Oh yes, it's Latin night, and the feeling's right -- for a frontrunner! EW recapper Maggie Fremont knows exactly what else to expect from Latin Night: "people being intimidated by sexiness, steamy partner work, skimpy outfits, bongos, awkward rubbing, not awkward rubbing, and lots and lots of temperature puns." We got it all in spades; unfortunately, one too many cha-cha-chas also caused Mark Ballas to slip a disk, taking him off the dance floor for an indeterminate amount of time. But that meant troupe member Alan stepped in two hours before the live show to partner with UFC fighter Paige VanZant and shocked everyone with the best dance of the season, earning a trio of 8s. That is, until Wanya Morris and partner Lindsey came out to salsa the hell out of some armography and perfect lines, and the Boy-II-Dancer cemented himself as this season's frontrunner.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: We've got ourselves a season! But still, there must be a sparkle sacrifice, and while Mischa Barton lived to dance another day, Geraldo Rivera and his Trump wig were sent packing in the season's first elimination. Mr. Mustache told Tom he expected to be the one going home, but for fans it's a hard pill to swallow losing pro Edyta Sliwinska -- who returned to the DWTS after 11 seasons away -- after just two dances. Sliwinska told EW, "I'll be back next season hopefully and stay a little bit longer, but I don't regret one minute that I spent with this man. I learned so much from him. We had so much fun together." That's the spirit!

Better Call Saul
AMC
WHAT HAPPENED: Wexler and McGill... Wexler McGill... what's in a name? For Jimmy and Kim, kind of a lot. But first -- Mike: He officially changes his statement to the D.A., saying it wasn't Tuco's gun but it wasn't his either. He then mysteriously drives over to scope out where Tio conducts his business just after promising to get Stacey and Kaylee a nice house, "whatever the cost." Jimmy is also taking a few risks; after Kim tells him she might take the job at Schweikart and Cokely, he attempts to quit Davis & Main. But realizing that means he would have to give his bonus check back, he comes up with a different plan: get fired through obnoxiously loud suits and not flushing the office toilets. It works. And even if Cliff knew exactly what he was doing, he doesn't know why: Jimmy wants to open Wexler McGill with Kim. But though she's embraced him as a boyfriend, Kim is wary of such a "colorful" law partner. She's does want to open her own practice though -- she proposes to Jimmy that they be "Wexler and McGill." To share an office but not a practice.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: This episode opens with another flashback to Jimmy's childhood, as he recognizes his father getting scammed at his grocery store -- he's unable to stop the scam from happening, but he is able to benefit from it. HtiFix points out that between these Saul-like flashbacks, and given that Jimmy was never really into his new job and is now right back where he started from, "a cynic might look at this stretch of episodes as a way for the show to delay the inevitable. But that's really the entire point of the whole series -- Jimmy alternately listening to the angel and devil on his shoulder, trying his best to defy his fundamental nature and the destiny we know he has to embrace eventually." Even if it's slow and littered with rainbow suits, consider us fully onboard for this journey to the inevitable.

WHAT HAPPENED: Norman Bates in a strip club... who'da thunk it? As Alex and Norma dabble in love back home (and Alex's Bob Paris stash in the basement starts to catch back up with him), Norman is busy trying to escape Pineview. He's still convinced that his mother is the one killing people, but his attempt to turn her over hasn't worked out the way he wanted it to -- with an immediate arrest, and him being there to comfort her. So Norman calls on his new pal Julian to help him get out of there, and Julian does helps him do just that and then some: He takes him to a strip club called The Landing Strip, because we all know Norman does well when sexually stimulated. Sure enough, he ends up with a lovely lady named Athena giving him a private dance, and soon, Freddie Highmore is doing that terrifying/incredible thing where he transitions into a not-so-lovely lady himself -- he starts speaking to Athena as Norma. Athena rolls with the change and they kiss, but just as it seems like things are about to go, a commotion outside with Julian shocks Norman out of his episode. So much so that he accepts that he's blacked out his experience with Athena: shaken, he admits, "I don't trust what I think is real."
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Could this be? This almost seems like a...positive turn of events in Norman's mental decline. As Vulture observes, "In many ways, [Monday's episode] feels the least Hitchcock-esque of the season to date. It has a different, more modern tone from the first three." And indeed, it features an abundance of something we see less and less of from Bates Motel these days: smiling. Norma and Alex, even if they're ignoring the many, many literal and figurative skeletons in their closets, are happy together. Norman is getting help, and following the strip club, he may actually want it. But don't get too comfortable. Vulture points out that the lovely smile Norma gives Alex in the morning as she heads to see Emma is immediately followed by a shot of the iconic horror house on the hill: "We all know happiness is fleeting in White Pine Bay."

DOWN TO CLOWN: If you were skeptical of Miley Cyrus stepping in as a full-time coach on season 11 of The Voice, fear no more. Cyrus got the hang of things as a special advisor to all four teams on Monday night's episode, and even if she was in full clown gear, she came packing serious and insightful advice for the contestants. Go on -- give the woman a red chair!
