Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt
I have had the privilege of meeting some unbelievable people. I met some of the most powerful, influential, wealthiest people in the world. From presidents to billionaires, to Hollywood actors and actresses, to world class athletes, but by far and away, the greatest person I’ve ever met in my life is Billy Graham. One of the things that has made Dr. Graham so great to me is he doesn’t even realize how great he is. He is by far and away the most humble person I’ve ever met.
That is what makes this story even sweeter to me. A college president was sitting next to Dr. Graham, at a dinner, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He asked him a great question. He said, “Dr. Graham in all the years of your fantastic ministry what have you enjoyed the most?” Before Dr. Graham could answer this man suggested that maybe it had been all the times he had spent with presidents or kings and queens or heads of states or maybe it was preaching the Gospel to a million people over in Korea. Before he could continue, he said Dr. Graham said with that soft, humble voice, “Beyond a doubt it has been my fellowship with the Lord. To be able to talk with Him, to hear from Him, and to have His guidance and presence in my life has been my greatest joy.”
I wonder, quite honestly, how many of us would have given that answer? I wonder how many of us would say that our walk with God, our connection to God, our relationship with God has meant more to us and means more to us than anything else in the world.
I would like to ask you a question right now. How close are you to God? You may think is a difficult question to answer, but it really isn’t. I can tell every one of you exactly how close you are to God. I mean precisely. I mean I can be bulls-eye accurate. You are as close to God as you want to be. I’ll tell you something else. God is as willing to get as close to you as you are willing to let Him.
