The Brothers McGill Settle Scores |
AMC |
BECAUSE: And what do we have here? Why, it's Slippin' Chucky McGill. InBetter Call Saul's season 2 finale, Chuck used his copy shop freakout to his advantage. After slipping into a little bout of self-induced catatonia and having Jimmy help take care of him, he took his little brother unawares by recording their heartfelt conversation, which included Chuck explaining why he needs to retire from law and Jimmy admitting he altered the Mesa Verde documents. Let's see you talk your way out of this one, Jimmy-Boy. |

WHAT HAPPENED: Rescued by a rousing speech about hope... only onSupergirl! That's how Kara snaps National City out of their Myriad haze. But when Non ups the ante of his next attack to literally mind-blowing levels, Kara has to personally face off with Non and Indigo, which she's told upwards of 100 times is a suicide mission, as is the task she ultimately has to complete after handily defeating Non and Indigo (take that, detractors!). The only way for her to fully stop Myriad from destroying the city is to fly Fort Rozz into space, which is absolutely, 100 percent guaranteed to kill Kara. But you guys -- Supergirl takes that sacrificial flight, and Supergirl does not die, because Supergirl... has... hope? She also has a sister who uses the pod that brought Kara to Earth to save her. Kara returns to earth for a superhero special: a happy ending -- she celebrates with Team Supergirl, kisses James, is promoted by Cat -- and a cliffhanger. The party is interrupted by a Kryptonian pod crash-landing outside; Kara opens it, gasps, and the episode cuts to black. |
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: What's in the pod?! WHAT'S IN THE POD?!?! TVLine spoke to Supergirl executive producer Ali Adler about the finale and its cliffhanger ending, and she kept her comments pretty vague on the pod's actual contents: "Traditionally, we want to add as much intrigue into next season as possible. What we did was answer a lot more questions. It's a classic journey where [Kara] has to sacrifice herself for the greater good, and that's a trope of comics. We started this season with her asking that real question of 'Can I do this?' Tonight's episode answers, emphatically, that yes, she can." But don't feel left out... Adler told TVLine even CBS has yet to learn what's in the pod. |

WHAT HAPPENED: Ah, yes, the DWTS partner switch-up, guaranteed to make you wish at least one of the newly paired couples would fall in love. EW recapper Maggie Fremont reminds us that though it was once dreaded, the switch-up has proven its worth over time: "It showcases just how much our celebs have learned, but more importantly, it shines a spotlight on thepersonality and teaching styles of the pros. Are they protective? jealous? relieved?" And yet, the switch-up was especially unkind to its stars in season 22 (as was visiting judge, Maksim "The Truth and Nothing But the Truth" Chmerkovskiy). Jodie Sweetin managed to overcome her slip-up from last week, dancing the Paso Doblé with Val, who totally used to have a crush on Stephanie Tanner. And Nyle continued to win hearts and sobs not even Tyra Banks' smizing can withstand, dancing an emotional Viennese Waltz that earned the night's only full-fledged, real-life compliment from Len. |
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: So then, why did Nyle's final score have a tinge of disappointment? Well, that would be because Maks and Bruno gave Nyle 9s in their official scores, but held up 10 paddles for the reveal, making a 37/40 suddenly feel much less exciting than a 39/40 once the mistake was revealed by Erin Andrews. And even though it played out like an error, didn't it kind of feel like Maks and Bruno had a change of heart on the judges' panel?! Nyle certainly thought so -- he told EW, "Honestly I think what probably happened is that's what they really wanted to give me but I'm not sure how to describe it ... Subconsciously they wanted to give me those 10s." You're a 10 in our hearts, Nyle. |

WHAT HAPPENED: Girl, whyyyyyy? Why, Rebecca, why did you have to tell Josh that you'd moved to West Covina all for him just after he'd finally admitted his love for you. Okay, let's back up -- Josh is trying to marry Valencia; Greg is trying to be the man Rebecca wants to love; and Rebecca islooking for her fairytale moment, which she's sure Greg can deliver on. Fortunately, Jayma is having a fairytale wedding -- unfortunately, Greg gets it in his head that Rebecca wants him to be the chilled-out bad boy, and instead of helping her achieve her Moment (enough with the MOMENT!), wears plaid and doesn't tell her she looks like a princess... but Josh does. And after he realizes Valencia and his Aunt Myrna (the fabulous Lea Salonga, aka Princess Jasmine) are in cahoots to get them engaged, he and Valencia get in a huge fight and break up. Then he and Rebecca get in a magic carpet convertible and sleep together. Naturally, Rebecca tops it all off by trilling, "This is our moment, Josh Chan! I'm just so excited our love story can finally begin!" Because... Rebecca. |
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: We're feeling a little emotionally conflicted. On the one hand: Josh and Rebecca! And on the other hand: Greg??? And that's not even mentioning all the stuff that went down with BFF Paula. Showrunner Aline Brosh McKenna spoke with EW about the Crazy Ex-Girlfriend finale, and it seems like that conflict of emotion is probably stemming directly from our girl Bex: "A lot of that episode is about the push and pull between [Rebecca's] desire to escape into a fantasy world and the reality of people's imperfections: Greg's imperfections, her own imperfections. In that last moment, she's able to escape back into the fantasy that Josh has always offered her since she was 16." But that escape can't last forever -- McKenna assures that in season 2, "There's going to be ramifications for everybody." |
