Shot Through The Head, Wes Is Too Late |
|
ABC |
|
BECAUSE: After all was said and done in the HTGAWM season finale -- the tables turned, the twists revealed -- Wes closed out the episode by confronting his father in New York. He walked up to Wallace Mahoney, said, "I think I'm your son"... and Wallace Mahoney was promptly shot through the head by an unseen sniper, splattering Wes with blood. How's that for father/son bonding? |

WHAT HAPPENED: Of course, there was a little more to the finale than that, mostly, folks fleeing Middleton University to seek out -- or run from -- their problems. As EW recapper Marc Snetiker sums it up: "Sometimes you go south, heading back to where you came from to reconnect with your family and avoid the arrest warrant that's been put out for you at home... And sometimes, you go anywhere but wherever it is you were, because you accidentally killed your boss' unborn child in the mid-2000s and she's just finding out about itnow." That would be Annalise and Frank, respectively: After Tennessee time, Annalise gives the ADA new (Fitbit!) evidence that proves Caleb killed, well, everyone involved in the Hapstall case; Wes was quickly robbed of any reconciliation/face-punching with his father; and Frank... well, 10 years ago, Frank confessed to Sam that he spied on Annalise for Mahoney in exchange for cash, and as a result, she lost her unborn child. And Sam is all, You owe me, but raincheck until I need you to kill a pregnant sorority girl. Once Bonnie spills on that life-altering situation, it's time for Frank to flee -- for good? |
|
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: For as many answers as the season 2 finale offered, as always, we're still left with HTGAWM questions, mainly: Who shot Wallace Mahoney? And where exactly did Frank go? And further, why did Frank stick around at all after what he did? Actor Charlie Weber told TVLine that the harm Frank caused is exactly why he stayed: "That's the justification of his whole existence -- that he is living life for Annalise." And now that she's told him to go... will he still be a series regular in season 3? "Yes. As far as I know! Have you heard something?" Not a thing, Charlie, but have you heard anything about the theories that Frank shot Mahoney? "It would certainly fit the story, but again I have no idea who pulled that trigger," Weber told TVLine. Well... that makes all of us. |

WHAT HAPPENED: The Top Chef season 13 finale is finally here... bring on the finger limes and Dungeness crab! Tom at least used the former in the four-course feast he prepared for finalists Jeremy and Amar to explain their final challenge: Prepare four-course meals of their own, with each coursehighlighting an ingredient they particularly love to cook with. Oh, and how about some people they particularly love to cook with? Jeremy and Amar's mentors -- superstar chefs Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Charlie Palmer, respectively -- were brought in to help prep and cook, even though Amar and Charlie had a falling out a few years back. Jeremy's comfort with Jean-George and confidence in the kitchen may just have been the thing that grabbed Jeremy's technically-advanced menu the win over Amar's more flavor-forward meal. Either way, this one goes out to hot single dads with a dream. |
|
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Ten years and 13 seasons into Top Chef, longtime host and executive producer (and renowned chef, but who's counting?) Tom Colicchio is feeling a little nostalgic. In the wake of selecting its 13th winner, Colicchio reminded Hollywood Reporter what Top Chef has been all about from the very beginning: "We're bringing real chefs who then go on to open restaurants that do really well... they're serious chefs. It's not about some personality, it's not about who can be the most outrageous, it's about who has the most talent." This time, it was Jeremy who showed the most talent, but we don't think Amar or many of the other contestants have anything to worry about -- Top Chef has a rich history in churning out success. |

Scandal |

ABC |

WHAT HAPPENED: Wednesday's hour of Scandal was all about power -- who has it, who wants it, and what they're willing to do to get it. And Abby? She wants to "Run that mother" (yeesh). Abby goes to Fitz with proof of Cyrus' connection to Governor Vargas, and has "Chief Of Staff" business cards to show for it by the time it all shakes out. In other sneaky dealings, Hollis Doyle -- the "slimy, slithery, hell-raised son of a whore," per Mellie -- is back on the scene, throwing his hat into the Presidential race, stealing Mellie's "Embrace America's tomorrow!" slogan, and saying subtlety-be-damned to the character's obvious Trump parallel. Olivia also avoided all delicacy when planting spy equipment in Jake's house, but she eventually tells him the truth: it's just because she misses him. But she's telling that sad truth to gross Jake, so everyone kind of loses here, even if Liv does make the suspicious connection that Jake set up meeting Vanessa the exact same way he once set up meeting her. |
|
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: So, uh... what is UP with Olivia? We're wondering; Quinn is wondering; New York Daily News is wondering, and doing it quite frankly: "Once upon a time, Olivia was strong and secure and sassy. Now she begs to know why her man picked someone else, and we didn't even get a 'pick me, choose me, love me' speech." The A.V. Club points out that at least Olivia recognizes her unfortunate turn: "There's a beautiful moment as Olivia is riding in the car with Huck, and he talks about watching his ex and his kid constantly onscreen, and she slowly realizes that she's as crazy as he is,because they're doing the exact same thing. As crazy as Huck is, that's really saying something." Of course, that doesn't make it any easier to witness... |

HOSTS WITH THE MOST (QUESTIONS): If you were looking for a clean-cut finale from Colony -- good luck! Families were torn apart, character fates were left dangling, and brand new mysteries were teased in the season 1 closer. But at least executive producer Ryan Condal told EW that was all done with great intention: "We wanted to leave the audience with this feeling at the end of the season that... regardless of what you thought of it, you know that season 2 necessarily has to be a different story." Uh huh, uh huh... now how long 'til season 2? |
