TOP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT
The Night Of Thrills and Chills
HBO
BECAUSE: We recommend that you go ahead and block off an hour of your next seven Sunday nights to devour HBO's riveting new crime drama, The Night Of, and maybe set aside another hour for mental recovery before bedtime. The premiere of the eight-part limited series on Sunday night follows Naz (Riz Ahmed) as he makes a series of unfortunate mistakes with a nightmare-dressed-like-a-daydream hookup that will shape his future in the criminal justice system. If you spent the entire premiere screaming, "Ask for a lawyer," rest assured that one finally comes in the form of John Turturro.

Preacher
FX
WHAT HAPPENED: It seems that Eugene (R.I.P.) wasn't the first person Jesse damned to hell for all eternity. Sunday's episode of Preacher fills us in on Jesse and Tulip's origin story: Tulip apparently lived with Jesse and his father for a short time when she was a girl. When his father turned her out, Jesse prayed that his father would die and be sent to hell. We'll give you one guess what happened. In the present day, Cassidy is having a difficult time accepting that his BFF sent a teenager to hell with his magic power and that Tulip "made love" to him. Then there's the matter of Jesse not knowing he's a vampire. To kill three birds with one fire extinguisher, Cassidy ends a particularly uncomfortable dinner with Tulip and Emily, steps out into the sun, tosses the preacher a fire extinguisher, and asks, "Will you let me burn, too?" Meanwhile, his vampire skin goes up in flames.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Jesse returns to dinner alone. Oh yes, something is up with Jesse, and not just because he's possessed. Variety is calling him out on it: "Selfish, selfish Custer -- you just saw one of your least awful followers sink through the floor and yet all you can muster is a sly smile of 'good riddance,' thankful that you can finally attend to your mass of parishioners, which you essentially conned into going to church? Shame on you." Our only hope for Jesse's salvation might be that hole he was digging in the church's floor at the end of the episode. It seems like our dear preacher might be trying to take himself straight to hell to amend a few sins.

Ray Donovan
Showtime
WHAT HAPPENED: Ray Donovan is in trouble -- and we really mean it this time! The threat that came with taking down the Minassians is finally haunting him in the form of Russian mobsters, who are attempting to attack the Donovan household from a food truck. After Abby shoots and kills the man trying to take out her husband, the family relocates to a hotel. Ray heads to find Muncie and see if they can't settle their issue, but then he finds her with her throat slashed. Who would've thought mobsters would take their revenge so seriously? Ray then goes straight to Belikov. Thanks to a persuasion trick involving a car door, Ray finds out Ms. Kovitsky is actually the person in charge. They make a deal: Donovan will help Belikov get out of prison in under a week and cover the money she'll lose in the process if she'll call off her assassins. She agrees, which just leaves one problem: that little plan will cost every bit of money the Donovans have.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Ray is willing to lose everything protect his family. After a frank chat with Abby, she agrees that she's willing to let him, as long as it means staying together. Underneath all the assassins and nightmare-making shipping containers full of human cargo, this show is all about family. That might explain why The Ringer recently asked, "Why do parents love Ray Donovan?" They turned to their own staffers' parents to explain the phenomenon. "Even though they usually screw things up, in the end the family always has each other's back. (My wife tells me this is not a story line. LOL.)," explained one parent. Another sees Donovan as aspirational: "Ray is a dad, and for this middle-aged father of four he is a smart, badass dad. Don't we all wish we could channel his badass-ness?" Yes, but without having to pay off Russian mobsters.

The Real Housewives of New Jersey
Bravo
WHAT HAPPENED: Love it or loathe it, The Real Housewives of New Jersey is back for a seventh season. Sunday's premiere marked the return of Teresa Giudice from prison. Like a good crime drama, the premiere's opening scenes pack in flashbacks to Teresa's fall from grace, time stamps on her release from incarceration, and her children celebrating their mother's homecoming. But Sunday's episode takes time to look to the future, too. Melissa is trying to start her new store, Envy by Melissa Gorga. EW recapper Evan Slead points out that the boutique should really be called Kyle by Alene Too, Melissa as Well: Jersey Edition, in a shout out to the ladies' sistren in Beverly Hills. Of course, there are two new Housewives to get to know: Dolores Catania and Siggy Flicker, who makes her debut sporting a fresh face lift and drinking lobster bisque through a straw. Cheers, ladies.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Season 7 was always going to focus on Teresa's return home. Although we have not yet seen how she will adjust, Vulture points out how much sympathy the show gives the family: "It's a truly touching moment when Teresa walks back into her house after 11 months, weeping into her husband's arms. If they didn't get this right on the first take, Meryl Streep should look out because it feels real. It's even sweeter when she hugs her girls. Hell, it's even cute when she gives a quick hello to the dog. This is the golden moment. It may be all downhill from here." Table flips might be on the horizon, but until then, we'll let RHONJ have this.

One More Thing...
FSociety Strikes Again
USA
HE'S BACK: We consider it our sacred duty to inform you that Mr. Robot' s season 2 premiere made an unexpected debut on social media Sunday night -- but it didn't stay for long. In true hacker fashion, the premiere popped up unexpectedly during a Facebook Live Q&A with the cast, then flitted about to Twitter, Snapchat, YouTube, and USA Network's homepage, only to disappear as quickly as it came. Keep your eyes to the screens and stay diligent, friends
