Wed Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

We are not only to shine His light we are to show His light. Something that is true about darkness no matter how dark the darkness might be is this. The darkest darkness cannot remain when one light is turned on. It doesn’t matter how thick the darkness is. Light can penetrate any darkness. However it is possible to shine a light without showing the light. Even if you shine a light so that people could see it, it doesn’t do any good unless you show them light so that others can follow. After Jesus told His disciples that they were to be the lights of the world He went on to say this,

Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.” (Matthew 5:15)

What God wants us to do in a world engulfed in darkness is simply to show other people the light that we have found. You don’t have to ask people to look at you when you turn on a light in a dark room. They automatically look at you.

· You play sports and you are a Christ-follower on your team. You are the light in their darkness.

· You live in a neighborhood filled with unbelievers and people who do not follow Christ. You are the light in that darkness.

· You are the Christ-follower in your office, an office full of those who don’t follow and don’t believe. You are to be the light in their darkness.

The big question we ought to be asking ourselves every day is this, “How can I show the light that is within me so that others can follow it?” It can be as simple as offering to pray for someone who has gone through a tragedy or continuing to be kind to people who reject your faith or inviting someone to church.
