Thu Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

Everything we do in this church whether it is a class for membership, baptizing in a pool of water, getting people involved in groups, preaching and teaching the Word of God or whether it is getting on a plane and traveling overseas, or whether it is giving out food to the hungry and clothing to the destitute. It is all for one purpose which is making disciples, because, disciples make disciples. Our church exists for one reason. Our church has only one job – to follow Final Instructions. When we do, we can go as far as God is willing to take us. When we don’t, we won’t go anywhere.

This actually happened. A woman was driving home one night. The weather was really nasty. Rain was coming down in buckets and visibility was poor. She saw some taillights of a car ahead of her and she began to follow this car in front of her. She wasn’t able to see and the car in front seemed to be going in the right direction so she just stuck with it. In fact, she stayed as close to that car as she possibility could.

All of sudden the car in front of her came to a dead stop. She began to wonder why? Maybe the car in front had hit a deer or run off the road. She began to feel very uncomfortable. Here she was stopped in the middle of the road and now she was concerned that someone might hit her from behind. Then, much to her alarm the car in front of her suddenly turned off their lights. Now, she wasn’t just concerned, but she was frightened!

All of a sudden she was startled by a knocking on her window. She looked up and there was a man standing in the pouring rain wanting to speak to her. She cracked the window open and said, “Do you have a problem?” The man said, “Actually, I was going to ask you the same question.” She said, “I am not the one who stopped in the middle of the road and then turned off my lights.” The man said, “Ma’am we are not in the middle of the road. We are in my driveway.” When you follow the wrong path and you take the wrong directions and you will wind up in a dead-end street. We have our directions and if we want to be the church that God wants us to be and the disciples we need to be, let’s just follow our final instructions
