The Throne is Empty, What to Watch Now
There’s a noticeable quiet in TV land. A void left by the completion of a no holds barred season of Game of Thrones. People are aimlessly navigating the constantly growing world of content available at their fingertips and cases of ‘choice overload’ are being reported at a pace we’ve never seen before. What can be done to fix this? Who do we reach out to, you may wonder? Fear not, seek not, for your search ends here. Here’s what you can watch next, all available on Amazon Prime Video.
Vikings (Kinda like GOT)
Swords and battle are your thing, we get it. It takes us back to a simpler time when you just settled your differences with a big ol’ battle. Well Vikings will give you that and more. You want powerful women? Done. Family infighting? Done. Grand, awe-inspiring set pieces? Done. Does this all sound familiar Thrones lovers? On top of all that you get one of the most captivating performances on TV with Travis Fimmel’s portrayal of Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok. If that’s not enough it comes from the History channel so you learn at the same time. Yay learning!
Mr. Robot (Game changer)
You like people coming after each other and ruining their lives but minus the swords, no problem. Mr. Robothas plenty of it, only it’s a different kind of hacking. There is a reason why so much love started to pour all over this show during last year’s award season. It’s just different, dark, temporal and beautifully acted. Similar to the lead of Vikings, Rami Malek is hypnotizing and you get an always entertaining Christian Slater who has finally landed on a series that will stick around.
The Americans (Critic’s choice)
If you were to attempt a consensus of critical opinions on what the best show on TV is you would probably come away with The Americans. It’s damn good. The ensemble cast is amazing with a special shout out to Noah Emmerich in his supporting role, but picking a favorite is impossible with this group. In each episode the tension mounts and leaves you wondering how these people make it through a day, never mind a life. Most shows you can see where things are headed, not on The Americans.
Catastrophe (Funniest show there is)
We aren’t the first to say it but the only thing wrong with this show is there isn’t enough of it. You will binge watch the crap out of it and be left wanting more. The brainchild of stars Rob Delaney and Sharon Horgan,Catastrophe is the funniest show of the last few years because of fantastic writing and chemistry.
Strike Back (Just plain escapism)
We aren’t going to argue that Strike Back should get the critical praise of other shows here. Instead we offer this up as a change in mood and genre. It’s just good old fashion ass-kicking action, explosions, and sexiness. Sometimes you want to turn down the think and turn up the escapism.
