Death/Life

Death Brings Life

By Touching Lives
“For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin – because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.” Romans 6:6-7
Jesus once said, “…you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” I would dare to say that most Christians do not know the truth about sin. If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, when it comes to sin, two things are true about you: 1) You are dead to sin; and 2) You are free from sin. These two things are facts, whether you feel like they are true or not. God said it. It is true, period.
Romans 6:7 says that the old self (that is the person we were before we met Jesus) was crucified with Jesus. Try to get this into your mind: When Jesus died on the cross He not only died for me; I died with Him. Jesus not only paid the penalty for sin, He broke the power of sin. You see, our old self (sinful nature) is powerless over sin. But when we give our life to Christ the old self dies, the new self is born (you are born again), and sin no longer has power because the old self is dead.
You see, Jesus did not just come to save us from hell – He came to save us from sin. He has literally given us the power to die to our sins. Sin is the worst kind of bully. Sin tells you, “You can’t beat me. You may as well give up. I always win.” But when you give your life to Jesus, sin becomes all talk and no action. The only power it has over you is the power you give it. You can tell sin to back off.
This requires a change in thinking. When Christ saves you, He does not remodel the old you. He makes you new. The old you dies, and you are raised to new life. You are given a new Master…and it is no longer sin. As a Christian, you must get it into your mind that you are children of God and you belong to Him. Because of that, you have power over any and all sin.
