How to Get Free Movie Rentals and Other Rewards from Your Chromecast or Google Home
Google has done a good job making a name for itself in the hardware game, and I’m not talking about the Pixel phones here—I’m talking about Chromecast and Google Home. Both devices are useful, affordable, and among the best at what they do.
As if that weren’t enough, you can also get free schwag from Google just by owning one (or multiple) of these products. Here’s where you can find free movie rentals and other sweet deals just for owning a Chromecast, Android TV, or Google Home.
Google rotates out different sets of offers from time to time, so if you have a Chromecast or Home, it’s worth checking every once in a while. Sometimes they’re not very special, like a discount on Hulu for new subscribers (which you can probably get somewhere else). However, there are a few gems, like the occasional free movie rental or discounts on smarthome products. To find out what deals are available to you at any given time, you’ll need the Google Home app for Android or iOS.
To find your offers, first make sure your phone is connected to Wi-Fi and that any Chromecast or Home devices you have are on and connected to the same network as your phone. Next, open the Google Home app and tap the menu button in the top-left corner.
In the slide-out menu, choose “Offers.”
The app will briefly scan your network for any applicable devices and see if you have any offers available. Different devices may have different offers, so if you have a Chromecast, a SHIELD TV, a Google Home, or anything else that uses Google Cast, make sure they’re all connected to see your offers.
You may have offers for simple things like a free month of YouTube Red or Google Play Music, both of which are pretty common. But for example here, I have an offer for 20% off a TP-Link Smart Bulb. In the past I’ve also had things like deep discounts for Google Home Mini.
Google and its partners cycle out new freebies every month or so. Some offers come with conditions, so you may not be able to use every single one, but it’s still worth checking in every once in a while. Free (or even discounted) stuff is nothing to sneeze at.
