Now I want to get very practical. I have found one of the greatest ways to exercise self-control in my life is to hit the “pause” button. It may be a three-second pause, a three minute pause or it may be a three-hour pause. It may even be a three day pause. It is a pause where you take a quick assessment of what the consequences might be if you decide to do what you are thinking about doing. Then, deciding if you really want to suffer the consequences of your action.
