Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt
"What is the meaning of life?" In his search for the answer to this question, King Solomon tried fame, fortune, power, position, education, and experimentation. As we study a passage in Ecclesiastes (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14), we find the answer that King Solomon came to believe as the meaning of life. That meaning can be expressed in three phrases...
1. Fear God.
"The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man." Ecclesiastes 12:13
The purpose of our lives revolves around God. We were created to connect with the Creator. For their health and well-being, children must learn to fear touching a hot stove, and to respect the discipline of their parents. Likewise, we must desire to fear anything that might displease God and to fear doing anything that might cause Him to have to discipline us.
Do you have a healthy fear of God? What areas of your life would look different, if you truly feared Him?
2. Follow God's commands.
There is a domino effect as we come to know God:
To know God is to love God.
To love God is to fear God.
To fear God is to obey God.
When we fear God, we will love what God loves and hate what God hates.
You will not get to know God by obeying God; you obey God when you get to know God." How does this statement ring true in your life? How do you understand the order of knowing God leading to obeying God?
3. Fulfill your purpose.
God created us for the purpose of knowing, loving, fearing, and obeying him. Many people are troubled and off track because they were created for one purpose, but they try to live for another purpose. We are going to be judged as to whether or not we followed God's plan and fulfilled his purpose.
"For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil." Ecclesiastes 12:14
The good news for followers of Christ is that we stand before God as not guilty because of Christ's work! Have you put your faith in Christ? How are you fulfilling the purpose for which God made you?
