THIS ISSUE: Bachelor in Paradise, Pretty Little Liars, Zoo, Dead of Summer TOP MOMENT OF THE NIGHT From Runner-Up to Bachelor ABC BECAUSE: In a franchise that generally thrives on being pleasantly predictable, The Bachelor managed to shock Bachelor Nation by announcing Nick Viall as its next Bachelor on Tuesday night's After Paradise. Now here's the backstory: Nick was the runner-up on Andi's season, came back to be the runner-up on Kaitlyn's season, and is currently dating someone on Bachelor in Paradise. You cannot deny -- the man is qualified for the job.

Bachelor in Paradise ABC WHAT HAPPENED: Caila has finally had it. On Tuesday night, she finishes telling Jared that she can't handle the way Ashley is constantly interfering with their budding relationship, so she's leaving paradise. Jared says he'll go with her! But first, he needs to talk to Ashley. Jared does at least briefly yell, "This isn't about you -- it's about me!" when Ashely tries to talk about how Caila's presence has been affecting her. Whatever the reason, consummate BFF Jared gives her a lingering hug and then runs after his girlfriend of five days, and theydrive off into the BiP sunset. Now for some fresh blood: Lauren H. and Shushanna from Ben's season show up with a double date card and ask out Brett and Wells, respectively. Both pairs hit it off on their surf date. Wells has now enjoyed three dates in as many days, and kissed at least two of the ladies at the cocktail party leading up to the rose ceremony. It makes sense that he's dreading handing out his rose, but we're kind of feeling the opposite. WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: And then there are the "strong" couples from Tuesday's episode. The main storylines entail Evan getting a boner while making out with Carly, and Josh and Amanda still giving off that distinct "You in danger, girl" vibe..." According to YahooTV, that's why "it's so sweet of Team Bachelor to give Josh and Amanda a date card, so he can take her off-campus and far away from any friends who might try to talk some sense into her."Indeed, far away from the logical warnings from others, Josh gives wooing Amanda all he's got. As Yahoo points out, "Rather than taking the twins' advice and asking Josh specific questions about allegations in Andi's book -- surely enough people there have read enough blog posts about the book that they could give Amanda a rough idea of what it says? -- Amanda simply regurgitates the delusional garbage she's been spouting all season." Follow your heart, girlfriend.

Pretty Little Liars Freeform WHAT HAPPENED: Tuesday night marks Pretty Little Liars' summer finale, and you know what that means: secrets, deaths, and possible deaths. Hanna is still a certified kidnapper, unsuccessfully trying to get an unconscious Noel to "wake up, bitch." With things not going to plan, she brings Mona into this jolly mix. It doesn't take long for her to find Noel's incriminating flash drive. Hanna returns to Rosewood not fully finished with Noel, but with plenty of lies about what she's been up to. As for the romance amid the chaos: Haleb lives, Ali smooches Emily (and also tells her she's pregnant), and Aria watches live on TV as Ezra is shockingly reunited with Nicole. But there's hardly time for romance -- the liars get a text that they can exchange Noel's flash drive for Hanna's self-incriminating video footage. And guess who's waiting for them at the incredibly creepy Joseph Lloyd King School for the Blind? Noel and Jenna, of course! Ambushing the Liars doesn't go so well for them, though: Noel manages to decapitate himself while trying to wield an axe at them. Spencer ends up shot in the chest and suddenly Mary Drake is by her side. "Spencer, I would never hurt you," she says. "I'm your mother." Say whaaaaat?! WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Spencer's fate heading out of the summer finale is unclear, and you can go ahead and add Toby's fate after a sudden car wreck to that list too. As for Jenna, she finds herself lying on the ground, gasping, "You're A.D." to a hooded figure. Of course we don't learn who that hood is hiding. But as Freeform confirmed this week that season 7 will bePretty Little Liars' last, we shouldn't have to wait much longer to finally get all of the answers we've been dying for. (Well, mostly PLL characters have been dying, but still). Karey Burke, Freeform's executive vice president of programming and development, told Variety that fans won't be disappointed they've stuck around this long come the series finale: "It's mind-blowing, it's provocative, it's everything the audience has come to expect from the show. It's unexpected, and completely and totally satisfying."

Zoo CBS WHAT HAPPENED: Chalk Tuesday's episode of Zoo up to daddy issues. Jackson shows back up to the team with his father bloodied and unconscious in the trunk of his car, though he doesn't quite remember how he got there, only that Dr. Oz was trying to poison him. But as Oz reveals when he wakes up, he was actually trying to give Jackson an anecdote -- made out of badger spit, obviously -- that would slow down his mutation process. And time needs to slow down because while the gang on the plane holds off Davies' fighter jets with a homemade electromagnetic pulse bomb, Mitch and Jamie are trying to convince the Russians to back off the Noah Objective amidst a violent gorilla attack. But when the gorilla kills Minister Ivankoff's daughter, they've now lost their chance to persuade the Russians to save the animals and wait for a cure. As for that cure, though, there's a little good news: Dr. Oz has friends on the secret island of Pangea, where the last animal they need for the cure is -- and they're headed there now. WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING: Just to review: A mad scientist who destined his son and ex-wife to a life of mutanthood is now taking the entire team to a secret island, where they're artificially manufacturing dinosaurs and he just happens to "know a guy." Right? Right. Of the team's tentative trust in Dr. Oz, actor James Wolk told TVLine, "Jackson is very sympathetic to his dad. They're going through a lot together, and he just saved his life, so it's a scary time for him." As for the "wackadoodle" nature of this series, Wolk confessed, "As you start buying into this world, and as we started seeing how fun it was for these stories to come alive, you just embrace it. You then hope that the audience is wanting and willing to go on that journey with you." And speaking of journeys, Wolk teased the finale to TVLine thusly: "Just get ready for Pangaea, that's all I can say. It's going to blow your mind."
