Oscar nominations 2019: See the full list

NICK ROMANO

The critics screenings, fancy luncheons, celebrity schmoozing, and high-end parties have all led to this: It’s time for the 2019 Oscar nominations.

While there was initial concern heading into awards season over Black Panther’s chances of getting a Best Picture nomination, especially with the Popular Film category that is now postponed, the Academy came through.

The film, from director Ryan Coogler, became the first comic book movie to get a nomination for the Best Picture category. The film remained snubbed from the acting categories, but the team as a whole earned seven nominations across multiple technical categories.

Meanwhile, The Favourite and Roma tied for the most nominations with 10 each: both were recognized in the top categories of Best Picture, Director (Alfonso Cuarón and Yorgos Lanthimos), Actress (Yalitza Aparicio and Olivia Colman), and Supporting Actress (Marina de Tavira, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz), as well as numerous technical awards.

Roma is now Netflix’s first Best Picture Oscar nomination.

Despite a director snub for Bradley Cooper, A Star Is Born walked away with eight nominations, tying with Adam McKay’s Vice.

Kumail Nanjiani, an Oscar nominee himself for The Big Sick, and black-ish Golden Globe winner Tracee Ellis Ross hosted this year’s two-part announcement presentation, which streamed live Tuesday on YouTube (shown below), Twitter, and Facebook Live at 8:20 a.m. ET/5:20 a.m. PT.
