Sea Mine Blown Up

Sea Mine Sighted, Blown Up Off Washington Coast

It was probably a training mine, but that doesn't mean it couldn't explode.

By Kyle Mizokami

What appeared to be a sea mine was sighted yesterday in Washington State’s Puget Sound. The mine was taken under control by the U.S. Coast Guard, moved to a safe area, and blown up. The sudden appearance of the mine in a relatively high traffic waterway illustrates the danger that sea mines pose, decades after a war’s end.

Raises Cancelled for Fed Workers

Trump: I'm Canceling Raises for Federal Workers

Members of the military will still get their raises

By Newser Editors and Wire Services

In this Aug. 28 photo, President Trump speaks during a meeting in the Oval Office.   (AP Photo/Evan Vucci, File)

President Trump has told Congress he is canceling a pay raise that most civilian federal employees were due to receive in January, citing budgetary constraints, per the AP. Trump informed House and Senate leaders in a letter, saying that locality pay increases would cost $25 billion, on top of a 2.1% across-the-board increase for most civilian government employees. "We must maintain efforts to put our Nation on a fiscally sustainable course, and Federal agency budgets cannot sustain such increases," reads the letter. Congress could effectively overturn the decision, notes the Hill. Trump's action doesn't affect the military, whose members are still due to receive a 2.6% raise.

And the ranks of stay-at-home and single fathers have grown significantly in recent decades. At the same time, more and more children are growing up without a father in the home.

This week marks the 20-year anniversary of the first Blade film. We spoke to Wesley Snipes about the franchise's past and potential future.

Twenty years ago this week, Wesley Snipes katana sliced his way through box office history and a heap of sexy LA vampires withBlade, a gritty R-rated superhero movie about a lesser known Marvel character. With the titular character a half-human, half-vampire vampire hunter played by Snipes, Blade subtly tackled racial allegories via supernatural characters ages before films like Bright would attempt the same feat with far less nuance.

How to Help Someone Find Hope and Healing, Part 1
By Rick Warren
“Therefore [Jesus] is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them”(Hebrews 7:25 NIV).
I believe that small groups are a vital part of helping so-called hopeless people find healing. One of the parts I like best about being in a small group is that you can pray for one another’s “hopeless” cases. We can lean upon the faith of others when we start to doubt.

If you’ve ever been on a cruise ship, then you know that all cruises begin in much the same way. Once all the passengers board, the ship’s horn sounds, and most of those on board rush up onto the deck. Further below the thick ropes that held the ship to the dock are let go. Then the vibration of the engines can be felt in the steel beneath your feet. Moments later, the dock begins to slip away.

“Let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up”(Galatians 6:9 NLT).
There are many things that work to keep us from completing our life missions. Over the years, I’ve debated whether the worst enemy is procrastination or discouragement. If Satan can’t get us to put off our life missions, then he’ll try to get us to quit altogether.

“Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Luke 6:27-28

How should we deal with someone who has wronged us…hurt us deeply…but isn’t repenting and isn’t asking for forgiveness? What about the person who doesn’t even recognize he has done anything wrong…or maybe does and is glad he is doing it? Jesus answers that question when He speaks of loving our enemies and forgiveness. Jesus taught that love doesn’t just forgive when another person asks for it. Love offers forgiveness with no strings attached. Love also bears with another and endures. And according to 1 Peter 4:8, love covers over a multitude of sins.

‘Bewitched’ Reboot With Interracial Family From Kenya Barris & Yamara Taylor Set At ABC With Big Commitment Via ABC Studios, Sony TV & Davis Entertainment

by Nellie Andreeva
Bewitched
Columbia/Shutterstock

Just before he recently departed ABC Studios to embark on a rich overall deal at Netflix, Black-ish creator Kenya Barris sold one last high-profile project to ABC: Bewitched, a single camera, interracial blended family comedy based on the popular 1960s sitcom of the same name.  It took a little while for all the deals to close, but the network has given a pilot production commitment to the new take on the classic supernatural sitcom, from Barris and Black-ish writer/producer Yamara Taylor. The project hails from ABC Studios; Sony Pictures TV, which has the rights to the title; and Sony-based Davis Entertainment (The Blacklist).

           Robyn Von Swank                            Megan Miller

In Bewitched, written by Barris and Taylor, Samantha, a hardworking black single mom who happens to be a witch, marries Darren, a white mortal who happens to be a bit of a slacker. They struggle to navigate their differences as she discovers that even when a black girl is literally magic, she’s still not as powerful as a decently tall white man with a full head of hair in America.
