Subtlety is not an admired trait when it comes to truck design. Today's modern pickups are safer, more fuel efficient, and more capable than ever before, but 21st-century truck design demands a maximum level of IN YOUR FACE.


Which is why we love the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and its hood-scooped hood scoop.

Just look at that. The base-model Tundra already features that broad slit directly above the grille. By itself, it looks like a hood scoop, not unlike the big ol' air grabber on the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon. So when Toyota designers wanted something to set the off-road TRD Pro apart from the regular Tundra, they slapped another hood scoop on top of that. Voila! A scoop-atop-a-scoop.

This has been a feature of the TRD Pro since its debut earlier this year, and indeed, it isn't the first Tundra to be double-scooped: The 2018 Tundra Sport featured a similar stack-o-scoops. But today's announcement of pricing on the 2019 TRD Pro put those scooped-scoops right back in front of our eyeballs.

Look at them. They're magnificent. Even if, judging by this image of the TRD Sport's engine bay, they probably don't actually ventilate anything.

No matter. We love any truck thing that's actually a thing within another thing. Like the GMC Sierra's tailgate-within-a-tailgate. It's almost as if Xzibit got promoted from Pimp My Ride to be the directer of all pickup truck design. There's only one improvement we can suggest to Toyota:
