Earth's Oldest Known Rock

Earth's Oldest Known Rock Was Found on the Moon

One of the moon rocks collected by Apollo 14 actually originated on the Earth.

A lot of the rocks we have on Earth are pretty old, but none of them were around when our planet was first formed. The Earth itself is around 4.5 billion years old, and the oldest rocks we’ve ever found are a little over half that age. That seems to have changed, however, because a group of scientists recently announced they’ve found a rock that formed only half a billion years after the Earth itself. The twist is that this particular rock wasn’t discovered on Earth at all. It was found on the moon.

Army’s 1,000 Mile Supergun

The Army’s 1,000 Mile Supergun Could Be Aimed At China

The gun could strike targets in the South China Sea and beyond.

By Kyle Mizokami
imageU.S. ARMY PHOTO BY SGT. EDWARD BATES

The U.S. Army’s mysterious new super extended long range gun could sit on an island in the South China Sea and hit Chinese targets hundreds of miles away, smashing artificial islands made from dredged sediment acting as Beijing’s military outposts. That’s according to Secretary of the Army Mark Esper, who says the fantastical weapon would “open the door” for the other services, blasting enemy defenses before they have a chance to open fire on U.S. Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps forces converging on the region.

Bad News or Good News?

By Touching Lives
“And someone came and told them, ‘Look!  The men whom you put in prison are standing in the temple and teaching the people.’”  Acts 5:25
We all learn sooner or later that things are not always what they seem.  At times, what we may view as bad news can turn out to really be good news.  As I read the story of the early Church in the Book of Acts, I often wonder if I am reading good news or bad news.

BRITISH ANTARCTIC SURVEY

The West Antarctic Ice Sheet is an enigma. It makes up around one third of the entire Antarctic continent and will play a pivotal role in the next few decades because it’s melting, and fast. It’s also unpredictable, which makes it tough for scientists to get a handle on exactly how fast that melting is happening.

Understanding the Old Testament

by Ryan Duncan
The Almighty--we cannot find him; he is great in power; justice and abundant righteousness he will not violate. – Job 37:23
Like many Christians, when the New Year started I resolved to spend more time reading my Bible. I had already spent most of the previous year combing through the New Testament, so I decided to start at the very beginning and make my way through the Old Testament. Maybe it’s a sign of how little I’ve read my Bible lately, but I had forgotten how brutal the Old Testament could be. In particular, I spent a lot of time going over the Old Testament laws and the punishments for breaking them. It baffled me that the smallest infraction on the most obscure law could often lead to exile, or even death.

Mushroom or an Oak Tree?

Do You Want to Be a Mushroom or an Oak Tree?

By Rick Warren
“Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy” (Ephesians 4:24 NLT).
When God wants to remove the defects in your life, he doesn’t just snap his fingers so that it happens instantly. He does it incrementally. You’ve heard me say this before: When God wants to make a mushroom, he takes six hours, but when God wants to make an oak tree, he takes 60 years.

Owned by Identity

by John UpChurch
You are not your own, for you were bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Stephen Hawking was a brilliant physicist, but a lot of his theories were strange and difficult to prove. Perhaps his most famous of these involves what comes out of black holes. In 1974, Hawking theorized that black holes emit some kind of radiation, called Hawking radiation, and now, nearly fifty years later, a group of researchers have managed to provide experimental evidence for this theoretical radiation.
