How to Get Your Amazon Prime Discounts at Whole Foods
Amazon’s finished rolling out discounts for Prime members to every Whole Foods in the nation. If you want to get in on the money-saving action, here’s what you need to know.
How to Set Up Your Prime Discounts
Amazon’s trying to make it as easy as possible to get your discounts when you go shopping, but you’ll still need to do just a little bit of leg work to get it set up. You have two options, depending on how you prefer to get your discounts. You can either install the Whole Foods app on your phone and scan a barcode every time you check out, or you can link your phone number to your Amazon account and give the cashier that every time you check out.
Option 1: Scan a QR Code
If you want to go download the app and scan a code when you check out, follow these steps:
- Download and install Whole Foods app for Android or iOS.
- Sign into your Amazon account in the app.
- Open the app any time you check out to find the QR code you need to scan.
This QR code changes every 30 seconds or so, much like a two-factor authentication code. This is to prevent you from taking a screenshot and sharing it around.
Option 2: Link Your Phone Number
If you don’t want to install the app, you can use your phone number to verify your identity. To do so, follow these steps:
- Sign into your Amazon account and head to this page.
- Click “Update settings,” next to “Use your mobile number.”
- Ensure the number you see is correct, or enter it if you need to.
- Enable the toggle that reads “Use my mobile number at checkout.”
Now, when you check out, you’ll be able to ask the cashier to look up your phone number. Unlike the QR code option, there doesn’t seem to be any method of confirming that you’re the one using your Prime account to get deals.
How to Find Deals When You’re In the Store
Amazon gives you two kinds of ways to save money in their stores: blue label sales that are only available to Prime members, and yellow label sales that are available to everyone, but Prime members get an extra 10% off, on top of the stated sale price.
Yellow Sales Are Everywhere
That extra 10% off you get for sale items is going to do a lot of the heavy lifting for your Prime savings. Yellow Sale stickers like the ones above are all over the store, showing you the discounted items that are currently going on. As a Prime member, you pay 10% less than the big yellow sticker price. So, using the orange juice in the photo above, you’d take an extra $0.14 off the $1.39, making your price $1.25. Not bad!
Blue Label Sales Are Featured Sale Items Just For You
The blue label sales are a bit more rare, presumably because Whole Foods doesn’t want to fill its stores with deals some customers can’t get without a subscription. Instead of seeing stickers all over every shelf, you’ll see the occasional stand or end cap with a big blue sign. In some cases, there will even be a hanging sign above the stand. You can see an example of both in the photo above. These will be sales that are just for you and other Prime members. You probably won’t be building your shopping trip around these, but you might find a few good deals here and there, especially on seasonal or featured items so keep an eye out for them.
The process to use your newfound discounts is relatively simple, so you shouldn’t have to adjust your shopping process too much. If you don’t normally shop at Whole Foods, it might not be enough to get you to start, but if you’re already a regular customer, or if you could be with a little push, these discounts might just get you a little deeper into Amazon’s world.
