Wed Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

“For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away.” (Matthew 25:14-15)

We think of a talent as an ability, but that is not what the word means here. A talent in the ancient world was a measure of money. The value of one talent was equal to twenty years of wages for an average worker. Even though each man had been given different amounts. In the eyes of the Master every man had been given a significant amount. Don’t miss this. There are no unimportant instruments in God’s orchestra. There are no little talents in God’s Kingdom.

Have you ever thought about the fact that what we think are big things are little to God? What we think are little things are big to God? Do you know why you are important to God? Do you know why you are a big deal to God? Because, God made you. Do you know why your talents and your abilities are big deals to God? Because, God gave them to you. These talents were different in amount, but they were the same in source. They had all been given by the Master.

It is not how much you have that matters to God; it is what you do with what you have that matters to God. God doesn’t care whether you’ve got five talents or one talent. What matters is we all have the same, God-given opportunity to use what God has given us for His glory and for the good of other people.

If you are in to equality you are going to love this. God is an equal-opportunity employer. All three servants received different amounts of talents. All three servants had different abilities, but all three servants had the same opportunity to use their ability to give profitably to the Master
