Thur Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

One of the best life practices to combat depression is exercise. If you rise early each morning, eat on the run, work seven days a week, and never exercise, don't be surprised if you body reacts negatively. If you're a stay-at-home parent with small children, unending household duties, and crying babies, your body can react. So a physical component often lies behind depression.

Mental distress can also stem from a chemical cause. When brain's chemical messengers, called neurotransmitters, are healthy, we are too. When some of those transmitters - such as serotonin or dopamine - are absent, low, or imbalanced, it can trigger major depression.

And you cannot discount spiritual causes of depression. Satan wants God's people depressed. Often spiritual warfare is either at the root of our problems or is exacerbating them.

Do any of these causes sound familiar to you? Can you relate? I encourage you to take th next step and analyze your problem. Make sure you've done everything in your power to root out the problem. Find out whether it is physical, emotional, or a spiritual problem. Have you been able to pinpoint the cause(s) either potentially or actually? Then do these 3 things - Refresh yourself, focus on God and attend to others. You'll be surprised at the good it does both you and others.
