Overjoyed
By Touching Lives
“When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.” Matthew 2:10
They had heard the prophecy. They had identified the Star of Bethlehem. They had followed it over 550 miles to Jerusalem. They had learned that the baby they sought was born in Bethlehem. Their mission was almost complete. Now all they had to do was figure out where in Bethlehem to go to meet the Promised One. And then it happened…the star – His star – “rose and went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was (Matthew 2:9).” The next verse tells us the Wise Men were overjoyed.
Why were they overjoyed? Was it because their long journey was over…or they were tired…or hungry? Was it because they were right about the star? No. It was because the star had brought them to what they had been looking for all along – Jesus. These Wise Men had finally gone to where God wants all of us to go, and that is to Jesus.
There is one part of this story I do not want to miss. There were Jewish religious leaders who informed the wise men that this Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Yet, even though they knew the Word of God they made no effort to travel 5 miles to see if the Wise Men were right and to meet the Son of God. What a great tragedy to go through the show called “religion” and miss the Star.
This Jesus is the God of the Universe, the Messiah of Israel, the Lord of All, and the Savior of the World. He is the Star of the show. He is the Star of Christmas, and He wants to be the Star of your heart. Have you met Him? He is waiting.
Father, Thank You for sending Jesus to lead the way to You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
