Mon Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” Matthew 7:24-27

According to the passage above, two different men built two different houses. Both started off with the same purpose: they wanted to build a place for their families to live. But what is the lesson Jesus is teaching? These two houses were basically the same structure, with the same design. The only difference was the foundation. Where the first home was built on a solid foundation, the second home was built on a sandy foundation.

I believe families today are facing this very same decision when it comes to building their homes. I’m not talking about the physical house, but rather the spiritual and moral environments of the home. Parents must make two things a priority if they truly desire to build a home that will not crumble when the storms of life come. Their very life and the life of their children depends on it.

First, we must hear the Word of God. Both of these men heard the Word of God. The reason it is important to hear the Word of God and to read the Word of God is because every time you do you’re getting another rock that you can lay in your foundation. But it is not enough just to hear the Word of God. We must also heed the Word of God. Jesus said the wise man was “the one who hears these sayings of mine and does them.” So to build a home on a firm foundation, we must both continually hear from God’s Word and implement what it teaches.

Parents, if you desire for your home to last through the storms of life, if you desire for the members of your home to be prepared for eternity, you must build it on the same foundation God has built His House on—the Lord Jesus Christ. “For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” (I Corinthians 3:11)
