Wed Devotional

Daily Devotional

from Touching Lives with Dr. James Merritt:

“For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--His eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” Romans 1:20

The Bible teaches that each person is responsible for his or her own decisions when it comes to Jesus and eternity. 2 Corinthians 5:10 says, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” We will all appear before God and be judged. Those who have placed their faith in Christ shall have confirmed that Jesus has paid the penalty for their sins; all others will find that they face eternal punishment for their wrongs.

But what about those who have never heard the Word of God? To use, for example, an old cliché… the guy in the hut on an island, who has never heard the name Jesus, or read a Bible, or had the opportunity to commit himself to Christ? Will he still be judged? Surely God would not hold accountable someone who had no knowledge of God or His will and ways. But here, too, God’s Word is quite clear. Romans 1:20 reminds us that God’s power, nature and ways are clearly seen in His own creation. God has revealed Himself through what He has made. And because of this, no person is excused from His judgment.

This should remind us and encourage us to share the Gospel with everyone, at every opportunity, so that each person has as great an opportunity as possible to understand the death, burial and resurrection of Christ and what it means to their life and their eternity.

God, the Bible tells us that the very elements of Your creation reveal to us that You are real and that You made us. Thank you for Your Word, which allows us to know You more fully and gives us the blueprint for having a relationship with You. Open up opportunities for me to share my faith in You with friends, family and those I meet along the way. Give me the courage to share Jesus at every opportunity. Use my life to Your glory. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
