Presence and Power

Presence and Power

By Touching Lives
“Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me.” Psalm 51:11
In Psalm 51:11, King David makes a strange statement to God that can even be somewhat frightening at first glance. He asks God not to remove him from His presence or take the Holy Spirit away from him. No one wants to lose the presence of God or the Holy Spirit; and yet many fear that is exactly what will happen if they don’t get their act together – that God is going to get so fed up that He will finally just wash His hands of them forever. What a terrible burden to carry through life!
This is not what King David meant when he prayed these words. He was not referring to losing salvation or to having God forsake you forever. If we go back just one verse, we see that David had just asked God to give him a pure heart. As he is praying these words, he wants with everything in him to live a life of purity. He wants to take the right path this time. It is with this desire that the King asks God for His continual presence in his life.
There are two things that we all must have if we are going to live the life that God wants us to live. We need God’s presence and we need God’s power. King David understood this truth. That is what he was asking for in verse 11…the continual presence and power of God in his life.
The Christian life is not you living for God; it is God living through you. When you give your life to Jesus Christ you immediately get two things – you get the presence of God the Father in you, and the power of God the Spirit for you. This is the key to true and lasting revival. Revival is knowing I am going to live a life of purity, not because of my performance, but because of God’s presence and the Spirit’s power.

A Thankful Tomorrow

“How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.” – Psalms 31:19
I’ve always really enjoyed Thanksgiving. Sure, the family can be pretty crazy at times, and I usually end up on dish duty after the meal, but Thanksgiving has always been a time for me to stop and realize how blessed I am. Friends, family, a warm meal, there are many simple things in this life that are easy to take for granted, so it’s good to have a day that reminds us to be thankful for all God has given us. The problem is that’s usually how long it lasts, a day. After the food has been eaten and prayers have been said, many people wake up the next morning and jump head first into the madness of Black Friday.
I can only remember shopping twice on Black Friday, and I regretted it both times. It’s complete chaos, with people running, screaming, and sometimes even fighting each other over things they want to buy. I’ve never had any crazy experiences myself, but my brother-in-law remembers a particularly strange incident that happened while he was in college. One year, while he and my sister were still dating, he drove up to visit her on the Friday after Thanksgiving. He had left his house at 3am with hopes of avoiding the holiday rush and was making good time on the freeway when suddenly, out of nowhere, a long line of traffic appeared in the distance.
At first he thought there had been an accident, but as he got closer he realized that the stalled traffic was due to cars making complete stops on the freeway so their passengers could get out, jump the guard rails, and climb a small hill to a nearby outlet mall. It’s ironic, and a little sad, that a day which celebrates American greed happens after the holiday about being thankful. At times like these, it’s important that as Christians realize we cannot live Christ-centered lives when we leapfrog between God and possessions.
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Matthew 6:24)
So don’t throw out your thankfulness with the evening leftovers, but hold onto it as the Advent season begins. Remember the blessings Christ has given us and use them to prepare yourself for Christmas, when we celebrate the birth of Christ, the greatest gift of all.
Intersecting Faith and Life: Don’t let the crazy shopping season distract you from what’s really important.

Wait & Watch

Wait, and Watch God Affirm Your Faith

Wait, and Watch God Affirm Your Faith
By Rick Warren
“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you” (John 14:26 GNT).
I remember growing up with some old math books that had the answers at the end of the book. I could work out the equation, figure out the answer, and then go and check it in the back. Or not! What I actually did was go find the answer and then, knowing where I was supposed to end up, try to figure out how to do the equation.
In a way, that’s similar to how prayer works. God has already given us a promise that he’s going to answer. Since you know how it’s going to end up, you’re left to go back and wait in the middle while it’s all being worked out. You say, “Thanks, Lord! I haven’t gotten my answer yet, but I know it’s on the way, because you promised. You’ve given me a rhema. You’ve spoken to my heart, and I know it’s going to happen. It’s simply a matter of your timing.”
After you’ve made that commitment and taken the step of faith, often God will send little confirmations during your time of waiting.
When we moved to California, Kay and I had prayed for God to show us where to go and start a new church. After a period of time, we really felt God saying to us a rhema: Go to the Saddleback Valley. There was a real peace in our hearts about it, and we felt confident. After we made the decision to make the move, we experienced all kinds of little confirmations.
I’d written a letter to a man in charge of directing churches in this area, telling him I was going to come. At the same time, he was writing me a letter, asking me to come. We didn’t know about each other’s letters.
When we got here, we didn’t know anybody. Yet within three hours of arriving, we had already met the man who became our first member.
We got here in January of 1980, and a total stranger called me up one day, told me his name, and said, “We’ve never met before, but I understand you’re starting a new church. I feel like God wants me to support your ministry for the first two months with $1,000 a month.”
We didn’t count on those kinds of things happening. But we claimed God’s promise, took a step of faith, and believed in God’s loving grace to give us affirmation along the way.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Gal. 5: 22-23)

God is really into fruit. The first diet he put the first couple on was from all appearances one consisting of fruit and vegatables. Fruit is one of those rare foods that is not only good to you it is good for you. As God’s Holy Spirit lives in Christ-followers, He wants to bear through us these character qualities that like fruit will make us both attactive to others and positively influential with others. Today we deal with the fruit of kindness.

The wisest man who ever lived, a man named Solomon, wrote a book in the Bible called Proverbs. This book basically is a summary of the best practical wisdom from the heart of God. He felt that kindness was so very important that this is what he had to say about it.

“Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace; write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people and you will gain a good reputation.” (Proverbs 3: 3-4)

Solomon said in effect, you would be better leaving home without American Express than leaving home without kindness. Every morning when you get up and walk out the door to go to work or school or wherever you are going, you ought to wear kindness around your neck just like a necklace.

You can't necessarily see the massive number of diamonds in the Bavarian town of Nördlingen. But trust: There are 72,000 tons of microscopic diamonds dusting the buildings in the area.

They weren't put there on purpose, either. We can thank a wayward little asteroid for this incredibly strange phenomenon.

Said asteroid hit this region of Bavaria 15 million years ago, leaving behind a nine-mile crater (at the very site of which you'll find Nördlingen). The asteroid also left suevit — rock that's made up of glass, diamonds, crystal, and other debris — in its wake.

The Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) report titled "Worldwide Cost of Living," gives an eye-opening ranking about how expensive or cheap it is to live in the world.

After analysing a wide-range of data — from food and fuel costs to salaries — the EIU put together a ranking of the most expensive and cheapest cities in the world to live in.

The list includes 133 countries, and naturally some of the world's key financial hubs, like London and New York City, ranked near the top the list.

Excursions Not Worth Your Money

5 Cruise Excursions Not Worth Your Money

By Ashley Kosciolek

Beach in Tortola

For many travelers who cruise with the intention of seeing new places and having new experiences, shore excursions are key. As each cruise line's list of shore trip offerings continues to grow, it can be downright difficult to decide which types of excursions are right for you. How do you know you won't be paying too much for a tour that could very well be too crowded or that won't give you the time you need at the sights you want to see? Check out our list of cruise shore excursions that aren't worth your money before booking your next on-land adventure.

1. Shopping

Whether you prefer kitschy T-shirts, duty-free purchases or authentic, handmade souvenirs, great shopping abounds in many a cruise port, but there's no need to shell out money for a shopping excursion. It's far easier to do it on your own with a tiny bit of research ahead of time. It won't cost you a cent to browse, you can stop whenever you want at the places that interest you, and you'll also avoid the high-pressure sales tactics of local vendors who often pay cruise lines to be included on these types of organized cruise excursions.

Bus tour in Tortola

2. Sightseeing by Bus

Bus tours are great for anyone with limited mobility or those who want a brief overview of a port without a lot of walking. The trouble with these types of excursions, though, is that they often involve more time on the road than actual exploration, and each stop can feel rushed. Plus there's nothing more annoying than tour guides who talk too much or the disappointment you feel when that awesome landmark you were hoping to see is on the right side of the bus when you're sitting on the left.

3. Booze Cruises

When you first read the description of a "party cruise" or "sunset cruise," it might sound like a ton of fun or a relaxing way to end the day. What you'll more likely find is a raucous vibe, akin to that of a frat party. There's nothing wrong with these tours if that's your scene, but when you combine unlimited cocktails with the motion of the ocean on a small boat, the alcohol is bound to reappear, if you catch our drift -- especially if you're someone who's already prone to seasickness.

Museum in St. Petersburg

4. Museums

Museums are some of the best places to learn about local culture in the ports you visit, but the experience won't be enjoyable if you're in a group with several dozen other travelers, struggling to hear your tour guide while muscling your way to the front of the group to catch fleeting glimpses of important artifacts. Although organized museum shore excursions include transportation and expedited admission, in most cases you can still go it alone and minimize hassle and wait times by planning transportation and purchasing museum tickets in advance.

5. Beach Breaks

Sure, a relaxing day at the beach with a cold drink, warm breezes and stunning views sounds awesome, but if you book a cruise excursion that promises you sun and sand, you might go from being a beach bum to being just plain bummed. What you'll likely find on a beach shore trip are swarms of fellow cruisers (particularly in popular ports on days when more than one ship is calling) who all had the same idea. Crowds can make umbrellas and chairs scarce, the atmosphere loud and lines for the toilets long, leaving you with an ambiance that's anything but serene. Instead, find a beach -- or even a resort -- that's a little farther away, and arrange your own transportation. There might still be an entry fee, but it will almost always be less expensive than paying for an excursion, and you'll be more likely to escape the masses.

(NEWSER) – To paraphrase one of the great philosophers of our time: Alcohol is the solution to all of life's problems. It's a sentiment Outside writer Susan Casey appears to agree with. In a piece on putting together a first-aid kit for all manner of adventures, Casey surprisingly calls a flask of vodka "the best addition I've made to my ready-for-anything list." She calls the liquor "wildly useful," noting it can be used as an anesthetic, a disinfectant, and an antimicrobial—and makes a mean martini for drinking around the campfire. "It can clean a cut, prevent infection, and de-stress the patient all at once," Casey writes.

With Congress Back, GOP Has 6 Potential Problems
Half-a-dozen Republican senators are wavering on tax reform, enough to kill it

(NEWSER) – Congress returned to work on Monday after the holiday break, and the stretch between now and Christmas promises to be a chaotic one. The main issue is that Republicans want to have their tax-overhaul plan on President Trump's desk before the year is out. That would be dicey enough on its own, but the Hill notes that lawmakers also need to resolve a Dec. 8 deadline to avoid a government shutdown, with the issues of immigration and health care complicating all of the above. Details and developments:
  • 6 problems: Republicans can afford to lose only two GOP votes in the Senate on the tax plan, and Axios counts six potential nays at the moment: John McCain, Jeff Flake, and Bob Corker, all of whom would seemingly relish snubbing Trump; plus Susan Collins, Ron Johnson, and a new name in the mix, Steve Daines of Montana.
  • The push: The Washington Post reports on negotiations currently underway to win over the holdouts. Johnson and Daines worry GOP leaders the most, and both senators feel the current tax plan favors corporations over other, typically smaller, businesses. Tax breaks to help the latter could result, though the leaders would then have to find ways to offset that loss in revenue.
  • Watch Alabama: Politico notes that Alabama's special election involving Roy Moore is Dec. 12, meaning there's no guarantee that Republicans will be able to hold onto that "yes" vote in the Senate.
  • Trump optimistic: "The Tax Cut Bill is coming along very well, great support," the president tweeted Monday. "With just a few changes, some mathematical, the middle class and job producers can get even more in actual dollars and savings and the pass through provision becomes simpler and really works well!" Trump was to meet with GOP tax writers on Monday, ahead of a key Senate vote on Thursday, per Reuters.
  • Shutdown: The government runs out of money on Dec. 8 unless new legislation is passed, and Democrats may use that leverage to insist that any spending plan include money to continue the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. A slew of other issues may be folded into this fight as well, including funding for the Children's Health Insurance Program. In short, the next two weeks could well define the rest of Trump's first term, writes Bob Bryan at Business Insider.
  • What else: Fights over ObamaCare funding, flood insurance, and a key spy program also may factor in to the year-end legislative free-for-all, and CNN has details on each.

Avengers 4 will be a ‘finale’ for the MCU, Marvel boss says

Devan Coggan

After Avengers 4 hits theaters in 2019, some of Marvel’s most beloved heroes may be putting away their spandex.

A new Vanity Fair cover story takes a deep dive into the past and present of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, from the first Iron Man to this year’s Thor: Ragnarok. Marvel has plenty of high-profile projects on the horizon — Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, the superhero-stuffed Avengers: Infinity War — but one of the most intriguing films is the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4.

Now, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is opening up about the film to Vanity Fair, teasing that Avengers 4 will “bring things you’ve never seen in superhero films: a finale.”

For many of the franchise’s most beloved actors — including Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye — Avengers 4 is the last film in their Marvel contract. As a result, there’s a good chance that this could be the last time we see their characters on screen — and not all of those character may make it out alive.

“There will be two distinct periods,” Feige added. “Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.”

Still, Avengers 4 is far from the end of the MCU. Marvel has films scheduled as far out as 2020, and Feige teased that the studio has films in the pipeline that are “completely different from anything that’s come before — intentionally.” Among those is a possible spin-off from James Gunn, focusing on characters from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters May 4, 2018, and Avengers 4 is slated for May 3, 2019.

Record-Breaking Black Friday Gun Checks

Fear — and big sales — propelled record-breaking Black Friday gun checks

by CORKY SIEMASZKO

Want to sell more guns? Talk about gun control — or offer customers a killer deal.

Fear of a crackdown in the wake of the recent massacres in Las Vegas and Texas appears to be one of the reasons why Black Friday was a banner day for gun buyers, with the FBI reporting a record 203,086 background checks for weapons purchases on the day after Thanksgiving, arms merchants and gun control experts told NBC News on Monday.

Image:

"We had the best Black Friday day of sales ever," said Michael Cargill, owner of Central Texas Gun Works in Austin, Texas. “We just had a church shooting here in Texas, so people are talking about increasing security and buying guns for security teams.”

Cargill was referring to the Nov. 5 mass shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs by a disgraced Air Force vet named Devin Patrick Kelley that left two dozen worshippers dead.

At the same time, Cargill said, many of his customers are worried about bipartisan pending legislation to improve background checks that emerged after the tragedy — and is designed to keep weapons out of the hands of people like Kelley, who was armed with a Ruger assault-type rifle.

“People are really unsure about what’s being proposed,” he said. “So they are not waiting and buying now.”

But out in South Dakota, it was glut of available guns that propelled Black Friday sales at Sodak Sports in Aberdeen.

"There was an abundance of great deals and great manufacturer rebates," owner A.J. Hoffman said. "They were offering $100, $200 rebates, which are unheard of."

“We do a lot of ammo specials,” he said. “We had some discounted gun specials. I really think that on Black Friday Americans are trained to spend and we could offer some great deals.”

Still, it’s been documented that after major mass shootings, when politicians and others starting talking about gun control, gun sales go up, Daniel Webster, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research, said.

“Some gun owners tend to be skeptical about any measure of gun control and buy into this notion that it’s a slippery slope towards much stricter laws and even gun confiscations,” Webster said.

Perhaps the best-known example of this happened five years ago after the massacre of 20 first graders and six staffers at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut by a disturbed young man armed with a Bushmaster AR-15 rifle. Sales of the assault-type rifle soared as the push to ban them grew louder, Webster said.

More recently, revelations that Las Vegas mass shooter Stephen Paddock had modified some of his weapons with bump-fire stocks — devices that enable semi-automatic rifles to be fired like illegal machine guns — caused a run on bump-fire stocks.

“After Sandy Hook, people were looking for AR-15s because they were afraid they were going to be banned,” Cargill said. “Right now, people are constantly asking about bump stocks, which we don’t have in stock anymore.”

The United States is awash with guns. Currently, there are about 270 million firearms in civilian hands, but half of those weapons are owned by just 3 percent of the population, according to a national survey conducted last year by Northeastern University researcher Matthew Miller, a professor of health sciences and epidemiology.

“Most people who own guns do not own lots and lots of guns,” Miller said.

Asked to explain the Black Friday gun check surge, Miller said one the reasons could also very well be as mundane as people having more expendable cash to spend on weapons.

“Are people doing better economically now?” he said. “I think a lot of this has to do with guns being on sale. That’s my hunch.”

Gun sales, which skyrocketed when President Barack Obama was in office, have actually “declined or at least levelled off under President Trump," Webster said.

That’s largely because Trump hasn’t pushed for gun control, not even after some of the deadliest massacres in U.S. history, experts said. And because there’s “some degree of saturation.”

“Those who want guns have them and have enough of them,” Webster said. “Obama was good for the gun lobby to use as a foil to make people believe that Obama was after their guns. I don’t think Barack Obama did anything that would have warranted that response. But the people who were most vulnerable to the gun lobby’s claims may also have greater suspicions about the first African-American president.”

This Is the Time to Shop

This Is the Time to Shop: Cyber Monday By the Numbers

November 27, 2017

Rob Garf, vice president of industry strategy and insights for Salesforce, discussed the rise of digital shopping throughout the holiday season.
Between Thanksgiving and Black Friday, mobile shopping rose 11 percent year-over-year to 40 percent of all online sales. Garf refers to our mobile phones as the "remote control of our life" when discussing the device's increased roll in commerce. He adds that retailers are overall doing a good job of making it easier for consumers to buy on mobile.
Garf delves into the rise of artificial intelligence as another driver of personalization for shoppers. By the end of cyber week, Garf estimates that 35 percent of all online shopping will be complete, and by December 3rd that number will rise to 50 percent.
For those wondering whether the next several weeks will bring sweeter deals, Garf notes that right now is the time to buy, as we are seeing the peak of holiday discounts heading into Christmas.

Renewed by Grace

Renewed by Grace

By Touching Lives
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
Have you ever struggled with the same sin over and over? Far too many of us find ourselves in this place of being stuck in the sin cycle. Why is that? When we sin, we instinctively know the first thing we need is forgiveness from God. That, however, is only the cure for the infection of guilt. Forgiveness deals with the cause of the infection, which is sin. King David realized forgiveness was not the only need that he had when it came to his sin struggle. He sinned with his hands, but the problem was his heart. The same is true of all of us.
We don’t just sin; we are all sinners. We do what we do because we are what we are. This requires that we deal not only with the symptoms of our problems, but also the cause of them. In Psalm 51:10 King David realizes that he doesn’t just need pardon from his sin, he needs purity. In other words, we don’t just need to be cleared of our sin; we need to be cleansed from our sin. That is why David wrote, “Create in me a pure heart, O God…”
When dealing with guilt it is not just a fungus on the surface that can be scraped off. It is not something that can be cured with a home remedy. Sin takes radical, invasive heart surgery. In fact, it takes a spiritual heart transplant. The Hebrew word used in Psalm 51:10 for “create” is the same word used in Genesis to describe the creation of the world. It means, “to create something out of nothing.” It is a miracle that only God can perform. The problem at the root of our sin is our heart. We need a new heart…not a minor repair job, but a complete spiritual overhaul.
It’s not enough to merely deal with what we do. We must deal with what we are. When we ask God to, “create in us a new heart and renew a steadfast spirit,” what we are really asking is that He change us from the inside out, not from the outside in. It is hard to let go of “pet” sins like drugs, alcohol, anger, or gossip. The truth is that all of the New Year’s resolutions in the world are worthless and powerless to overcome habitual sin. What we all need is to be renewed by God’s grace.

Stand Strong

How to Stand Strong in Steadfast Authority in Prayer

by Debbie Przybylski

“Many in the church today are being held captive spiritually, not because of the enemy’s power, but because we do not clearly understand our authority and calling in Christ...  As we begin to understand the hope of His calling, we will begin to walk in an abundant life of freedom and power.” Angie Weaver

Dear intercessors,

Most Christians do not exercise the tremendous authority they have in Christ. God has called us to make a difference in our nation. He can enforce His will, but He limits His dealings on earth by working through His people. He does not want us to passively stand by and watch the earth fall into decay (Psalm 8:4-6, 115:16). But if we were to evaluate the situation, isn’t this what many Christians are doing? How many of us exercise our authority? This needs to change in the coming days.

God has given us authority on earth to rule. It may not feel like it, but it’s true. He does nothing on earth unless he does it through a person. He always intended to rule the earth but through His delegated authority in mankind (Genesis 1:26). We were to carry out the government of the earth, but Adam and Eve gave it away through disobedience. You know the story. Adam transferred authority over the earth to Satan (Luke 4:4, 2 Corinthians 4:4). All of mankind was then under his dominion. God did not give Satan authority over the earth, Adam did.

We needed someone to stand between us, and Satan, in order to break that dominion. Jesus was the only one who could. He came as a man completely fulfilling God’s will and became our intercessor - the one who could join us to God again and break Satan’s headship over us (Isaiah 53:12). Jesus purchased us with his blood (Revelation 5:9, 1 Timothy 2:5) and not only restored us to God, He became the way that God could again have dominion over the earth (1 Corinthians 15, Matthew 28:19-20). Jesus could now rule in the affairs of earth.

He has given us authority to rule - and through prayer - we exercise this authority in Christ.

We are called to pray and seek justice on the earth on behalf of others. Not only can we break the personal strongholds in our lives through prayer, but we can impact our cities and nations. The world lies in the power of the evil one (1 John 5:19). Look around and you see this everywhere; drugs, pornography, murder, evil and so on. But we can make a difference. Jesus has authority in heaven and on earth, but since He is no longer on the earth, He rules through his Church. He changes things on earth through us! We must learn to exercise our authority right in the middle of Satan's territory. As we use our authority, we can actually subdue powers and principalities (Ephesians 3:10). Wow!

But how can we walk in authority in the midst of personal, and sometimes unrelenting, spiritual warfare? What are some ways we can stand strong?

Ways to Stand Strong in Steadfast Authority

"Praise be to the Lord, my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle” (Psalm 144:1).
  • Abide in Christ - As you abide, you are able to pray the things that are on God’s heart.
  • Be steadfast in prayer and ready for battle - Know that you are in enemy territory, and you are here to fight for God’s Kingdom in prayer. Watch for those fiery darts, hold up your shield of faith, and put on the armor of God (Ephesians 6).
  • Stand upon the promises of God - Do not listen to the enemy. Speak God’s promises over your family, neighborhood, city, and nation.
  • Know and Pray God’s Word - The Bible is filled with Scripture you can pray. Declarative prayer is a key way to exercise your authority in prayer. Try praying Daniel’s prayer in Daniel 9:3-19.
  • Focus on God during times of warfare - The enemy will try to discourage you as to your authority. Focus on God instead of the things you see happening in the world. Remember, you have authority in Christ.
  • Mix praise and prayer together - Worship is the atmosphere where truth dwells. There is power released in worship warfare. God is greater than all enemy attacks.
  • Practice fasting on a regular basis - Fasting gives you spiritual power and strength to steadfastly stand against the enemy.
  • Let God’s peace rule in your heart - Come in the opposite spirit of the world system. An attitude of peace and joy in the midst of darkness is powerful (Colossians 3:15).
When we got new inter-net access a few years ago, a man came and installed it outside our house. While we were at church one Sunday, someone cut the wires. We were unable to communicate with anyone! We knew that it was an unreasonable next-door neighbor because he had done bad things to us in the past. In this and other difficulties, we’ve learned to walk in God’s peace and take our authority in prayer by practicing these points. Perhaps you can identify with some form of spiritual warfare where you live or work. Practice taking your authority in prayer, look to Jesus, and realize that God has called you to live in steadfast authority on earth for such a time as this.

It’s time for the Church of Jesus Christ to arise and aggressively take back land stolen by the enemy. Are you and I going to let the devil control our cities when Jesus died for the entire world? The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it (Psalm 24:1). Let’s not forget that. This will be our finest hour if we learn to wield the weapons of warfare and stand in our God-given authority. It’s time to arise and realize the victory we have in Christ. It’s time to arise in steadfast authority in prayer.

Spirit-Controlled Desires

God Can Use Our Spirit-Controlled Desires to Direct Us

God Can Use Our Spirit-Controlled Desires to Direct Us
By Rick Warren
“It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose”(Philippians 2:13 NIV).
When we want God’s direction for our lives, we should get our desires out of the way so that we can honestly say, “God, I’m willing to go either way — whatever you want is what I want.”
Then we say, “God, help me to know what you want by giving me a desire one way or the other.” Some people don’t want to do that, because they think if they desire something, then God must be against it. That’s not true. God can use our Spirit-controlled desires to direct us. Psalm 37:4 says, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (NIV).If you’re really trying to do what’s right in God’s eyes, then your desires are going to be in line.
How do you know when you have the right desires? “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously . . . and it will be given to you” (James 1:5 NIV).You say, “Lord, give me the right kind of desire to do the right thing.”
When you’re facing a difficult decision, first, you confess your sins and get right with God. Then you commit the decision to the Lord and keep praying until you “get in neutral” about it. The third step is to ask God to reveal his will by giving you a desire: “Lord, give me the desire to do the right thing.” Remember: “It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13 NIV).
How do you know if the desire is from God? One good test is time. You can tell if a desire is from God by sitting on it for a while and praying, “God, if this desire is from you, make it stronger. If this desire is not from you, please take it away.” It’s a legitimate request — just ask God to do that for you!
