Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt
How many times have you ever been told by someone who meant well when you are worried, “Don’t worry!” How many times has that helped you? Paul does exactly that.
“Do not be anxious about anything.” (Philippians 4:6)
Paul says, “Don’t worry.” Or if you want to put a positive spin on it, “Worry about nothing.” Take it from a worrier. It is a lot easier said than done. I get it, but then, Paul tells us how to do it.
“In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (Philippians 4:6)
Here is the second part of his advice. Worry about nothing. Pray about everything. This sounds like such a cliché and I know it, but it really is true. The one thing that works every time if you truly do it that is guaranteed to get worry out of your life and put peace into your life is when you turn your cares into prayers. Paul is dealing here with reality. It is not that we are to pretend that we don’t have pressures or problems or we don’t have to deal with difficult people, because we do. Every single time you and I have a choice. We can choose to carry that pressure, try to solve that problem, try to deal with that person on our own or we can give every one of them to God.
