Last Man Standing won't be revived on CMT

Alas, ABC’s Last Man Standing won’t be joining Nashville on CMT.

EW has learned that talks between CMT and 20th Century Fox to revive the recently canceled Tim Allen comedy won’t be moving forward due to a disagreement over the show’s cost.

The two parties began discussing reviving ABC sitcom last week; however, at the time, insiders close to the negotiations told EW a deal was a “long shot.” “It’ll either come together quickly or die on the vine,” said an insider, adding that the parties were just kicking the show’s tires to see if it made sense both financially and creatively.

After six seasons, the ax fell on Last Man Standing around the time of Upfronts in May. The news shocked Allen, who said he “stunned and blindsided,” and many viewers, some of whom started a petition calling for an ABC boycott because they thought the show’s Republican star was targeted. Nevertheless, ABC stood by its decision to end the series, pointing out that it also canceled liberal-leaning series as well.

Whether or not the show will find another home remains to be seen. Both CMT and Fox declined to comment.
