Tues Devotional

Prince of our Peace

By Touching Lives
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders.  And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”  Isaiah 9:6
Most of us think of this verse as a “Christmas verse.”  Although it does speak of the birth of Christ, it was written hundreds of years before He was born in Bethlehem.  Prince of Peace is one of the names given to Him.  The peace referred to in this verse is peace between holy God and sinful men.  As long as there is sin, there will never be “world peace.”  We can, however, because of King Jesus, have peace with God.

Many are unaware that they even need peace with God.  The words “Christian,” “God,” and even “faith” have been so maligned and misused that few have a biblical understanding of what they mean.  How can we magnify Jesus as the Prince of our peace with God without knowing that without Him, there is none?  Romans 5:10 reminds us, “For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to Him through the death of His Son…”  Colossians 1:21 explains that this reconciliation was necessary because, “You were once alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior.”  James 4:4 further says that “anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.”
Without Christ, there is no peace with God.  Ephesians 2:13 puts it this way: “But now in Christ Jesus you who were once far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ.”  His blood shed on the cross brings us near.  There is no other way to God but through His Son, Jesus.  This truth means that we can celebrate Him as the Prince of Peace each and every day, not just during the Christmas season.
Have you thanked Him lately, worshiping Him as the Prince of your peace with God?
Father, Thank You for Jesus – the Prince of Peace.  This name is a reminder that He is the only way to peace with You.  Thank You for Your grace and forgiveness through Him.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
