Mon Inspiration

Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt

All God wants every one of us to do is play our part. God does not expect the same results, but He does expect the same effort. God never compares you with anyone else. God compares you with you. God doesn’t look at what you have. He looks at what you do with what you have.

I have found that every follower of Jesus Christ basically has one of two attitudes when it comes to playing their part. Some have the attitude, “I am not just going to sit here. I am going to do something!” Some have the attitude, “I’m not going to do something. I am just going to sit here.” I just want to say how grateful I am for those who understand that life is an opportunity to take responsibility, to use your ability, for the glory of God. For those of you who show up on time in your classroom to teach those children and those kids, for those who come Sunday after Sunday and help us park cars, greet people with a friendly smile or just hand out an order of worship. For those of you who play your part by greeting that little preschooler, letting those parents know their children are safe, or for showing up before the sun comes up on Sunday morning to rehearse so you can sing and play your best for God’s glory - thank you for playing your part.

Leonard Bernstein, perhaps the most famous orchestra conductor who ever lived was once asked, “What is the most difficult instrument to play in any orchestra?” His answer was shocking, “Second fiddle. I can get plenty of first violinists, but to find someone who plays second violin with as much enthusiasm or second French horn, or second flute, that is a problem. Yet, if no one plays second we have no harmony.” You know the truth of the matter is most of us are not five talent people. Most of us are two talent or one talent people. I can stand up here and tell you as a pastor of a church in some ways you are the most important people.
