Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines announce final season
SARAH WELDON@SARAHFWELDONSad news for HGTV fans: Fixer Upper with hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines will come to an end after its fifth season.
“It is with both sadness and expectation that we share the news that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be our last. While we are confident that this is the right choice for us, it has for sure not been an easy one to come to terms with,” the couple wrote on their blog, “Our family has grown up alongside yours, and we have felt you rooting us on from the other side of the screen. How bittersweet to say goodbye to the very thing that introduced us all in the first place.”
The show first premiered in 2013 and the Waco, Texas, couple and their family instantly warmed their way into the hearts of viewers around the globe, becoming one of the highest rated shows in HGTV history in just the span of a couple years.
“Our beautiful children are growing up so quickly,” said Joanna in a video announcing the decision. “The idea that we get to step back, get fresh with vision, get some rest, and hunker down with our kiddos is something that we’re excited about.”

Chip has written a second book, Capital Gaines: Smart Things I Learned Doing Stupid Stuff, due out Oct. 17.
The news is shocking to fans, but don’t worry. The couple makes it clear that they are not going anywhere. “We believe in our hearts that we’re going to see you again right around the corner, so stay tuned,” Chip said.
