Super Troopers 2 is officially coming to theaters, meow, and we’ll give you a hint when: it’s a date for good friends to come together, enjoy their favorite reefer, and remind everyone that “snozzberries taste like snozzberries.” Yup, the long-awaited sequel to the cult comedy classic will bow on the marijuana lover’s holiday, 4/20.
Actor Steve Lemme (Mac) teased during a recent interview that the film would come in “springtime and there’s a very obvious date, which happens to fall on a Friday this year.” But now it’s official. Fox Searchlight announced it will release Super Troopers 2 on April 20, 2018.
According to the plot synopsis, the sequel will see Mac, Thorny (Jay Chandrasekhar), Foster (Paul Soter), Rabbit (Erik Stolhanske), and Farva (Kevin Heffernan) called in to set up a new Highway Patrol station in an area at the center of a border dispute between the U.S. and Canada. “Unconventional police work” will follow.
The fact that Super Troopers 2 is even happening is by virtue of the original’s lasting impact on the fans. The Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign, launched in 2015, hit its initial goal of $2 million within the first day. A month later, the team had $4.4 million. The first set photos hit the Internet later that year, and filming wrapped in October 2016.
Marisa Coughlan, Brian Cox, and Lynda Carter will return for Super Troopers 2 alongside Emmanunelle Chriqui, Tyler Labine, Hayes MacArthur, Will Sasso, and Rob Lowe. Chandrasekhar directs based on a script by the Broken Lizard gang.
