And if that seems insane for a steel-wheeled pickup truck to you, you’re not alone. We see all sorts of new vehicles around here, and increasingly, the first question out of any of our mouths is not, "how much horsepower does it have?" but rather, "What was the sticker?" That’s where the really shocking numbers tend to lie.

I Don’t Want This to Be Part of My Story

Lysa TerKeurst

Have you ever caught yourself thinking, Dear God, please don’t let this be part of my story … ?

That was me when I first got my cancer diagnosis. Honestly, it just felt like too much on top of an already devastating season in my life.

Patience in Affliction

By Touching Lives
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”  Romans 12:12
“Patient” in this verse is the Greek word hypomeno.  It is a verb that means, “To remain; not recede or flee; to persevere; under misfortunes and trials to hold fast to one’s faith in Christ; to endure, bear bravely and calmly ill treatments.”  Jesus told His followers, “In this life you will have trouble.  But take heart, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).  Trouble, or affliction, is a given.  We live in a fallen world filled with fallen sinners, of which we are counted.

The Fruit of Patience

By Touching Lives
“Or do you show contempt for the riches of His kindness, forebearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?”  Romans 2:4
Anyone who truly knows God through a personal relationship with His Son, Jesus, knows that God is patient.  God described Himself to Moses in Exodus 34:6-7 as, “A compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin.”  And while He goes on to say that He will not leave sin unpunished, it is still His desire that none would perish, but everyone would come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
